ORPHEUS – the Movie

The ORPHEUS project, pioneering the development of an end-to-end object-based media chain for audio content, was officially concluded in May 2018, when the second and final ORPHEUS workshop was held at Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT) in Munich. There, the ten project partners presented their findings to an auditorium filled with more than 100 broadcast and audio professionals from all over the globe. Together, the project partners have created a full set of tools and applications for all stages of the complete object-based audio broadcast workflow.

In two successful pilots, ORPHEUS has proven the advantages of this next-generation audio technology as a universal, innovative and game-changing approach for media production and its applicability in real-world broadcast environments. The audio codec in use throughout the project was MPEG-H Audio, substantially developed by Fraunhofer IIS.

ORPHEUS started on December 1st, 2015 and concluded on May 31st, 2018. It received funding from the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program.
